Vault 22 was a ‘green vault’ filled with scientists dedicated to their experiment: keeping the entire population of the vault alive with plants grown within its confines. The experiment could be said to have exceeded all expectations, but with horrific side-effects, which turned the vault-dwellers into the horrific creatures, spore-carriers.
From time to time, the background noise sounds like whispering. The whispering is likely from a damaged looping intercom system or the Spore Carriers themselves despite the fact that the whispering is still active, even if you manage to kill every enemy in the vault. This implies maybe a monster you missed is hiding or even spying on you.
